I'll be honest, I always liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple clicks and a client can place an order using a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Sure, however, it comes at a cost. A big one.
That is just one the couple freelance platforms at which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and outright blackmail vendors any way that they like.
Why? Because Fiverr turn a blind eye to it.
In this informative article, I wish to talk about a recent bad experience as a vendor on Fiverr, and why I decided to give up on the platform altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I've been using Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a while, this particular encounter relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been advising her building a reputable account, and how to go above and beyond with every last purchase. Everything stated is her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which seemed to be similar to any other... so we thought.
The order was fulfilled in great time, and my girlfriend had included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (that is usually part of the pricier bundle ).
The client"loved" one of the concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as mentioned in the gig description. Soon afterwards, things got a little weird.
The client came back asking for a social networking kit to decide on the logo, something that is obviously not offered as a member of her gig.
In my advice, my girlfriend chose to deliver the additional work, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the customer responded with much more demands and some modifications to the social media files.
At this time, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a reply and reach out to Fiverr support for help, the customer did finally go right ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this was to demonstrate her he/she wasn't Fiverr Reviews - Appsally kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's response to the service question, the client paid an additional $10 to your social networking kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by yet another danger.
Now, all I wanted to do was go all Liam Neeson and seek this individual down so I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
But, at the time, I had hope that Fiverr service will step in and save my girlfriend from this PITA client.
After the answer came from Fiverr support, they told her they could Fiverr reviews Freelancers or Jobs Online - Truelancer not induce the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Alright, that is fair enough. (though the purchaser accepted it, technically.)
In addition they proposed drawing up a listing for the purchaser to demonstrate the job has been completed in accordance with the gig requirements.
My girlfriend hauled in her first email that the customer was hoping to extort her for free work out the agreed periods, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Needless to say, it wasn't about the work, it was about seeking protection from an abusive client who was intentionally pushing their luck.
Their reply did not give either of us any assurance that Fiverr actually knew , and even at this point we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At exactly the same time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to operate with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this is comments that was clearly and blatantly left to bully her to providing function outside the agreed conditions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
Instead of acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the one breaking all of the rules.
Since she'd asked the customer to modify their feedback, she was no longer eligible for any assistance from Fiverr assistance.
You can imagine how we both felt reading this.
Everything that the buyer had said and done before her very last message was now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened at all.
Fiverr essentially opted to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend with a permanent stain in an accounts she had worked so difficult to accumulate.
And believe me, there are plenty of buyers doing precisely that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will get away with it.
But as all of this was happening, I did some research to determine whether any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Very quickly, I found a range of nearly identical cases over the Fiverr forum outdated years ago. (that's correct, years.)
This is clearly something which's been happening for a long time and it all stems from providing buyers also much power over sellers.
When there's one thing I've heard about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how long that you put into a project, or just how hard you worked on it, or perhaps how long you managed communication in a dispute, as it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a clear cut case in your favor, there is still every chance the customer will come out at the top. It takes it one tiny thing that you"did no way" according to their conditions of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the evidence, it's clear to me Fiverr is well aware click to read of what is going on, yet is still ready to sit back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, I implore you to seriously reconsider your present support processes for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can set all that time and effort into building up an account and also over-delivering at every conceivable chance, just to be taken down from the very people that you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I don't need to abandon Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to prevent your own platform.
But after everything that's happened, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done to guard freelancers from using this kind of abuse, I'll continue to spread this post and do anything I could to stop others from falling prey to a one-sided support team.
The next you truly do something about it and provide freelancers a means to fight back, I will be more than happy to update the article.
